Romantic comedies and chick flicks seemed to rule the year in 2011. From a franchise series to the laughable, each one of the top 5 chick flicks of 2011 made a mark that had not been met by any previous year. Here are the films women really embraced in the past year.

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

 

Women flocks to the box office to watch the fourth installment of this movie franchise. Released on November 18, this movies continues the story of Bella, Jacob and Edward played by Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson. The movie franchise was formed from a series of books written by Stephanie Meyer. The movie series is based on a romantic triangle between a human, Bella, vampire, Edward and werewolf, Jacob. According to the recent tabulations, the movie has already brought in more that $650 million worldwide. Not bad for a movie that only cost $110 million to produce.

Bridesmaids

 

The second best film of the top 5 chick flicks of 2011 was the romantic comedy the Bridesmaids. The movie was released in May of 2011 and quickly began getting a buzz from women viewers. Many of the wives and girlfriends were found to be dragging their dates to watch this hilarious chick flick. The movie has brought in more that $288 million worldwide. The movie centers around the misfortunes of Anne the maid of honor for her best friend Lillian.

The Help

 

The help came in third for gross revenue, according to recent estimates. This top 5 chick flick only made a worldwide income of just over $203 million, but women loved this adaptation of the book originally published by Kathryn Stockett. It hit the theaters in August of 2011 and instantly became popular with the women. The movie concentrates on the relationship of a young white journalist, Eugenia Phelan, and two black maids during the peak of the civil rights movement in the mid 1960s. The journalist decides to write a book that shows the racism these black servants have to face daily and the book becomes controversial when the white families get their hands on it.

Just Go With It

 

This romantic comedy came in fourth on the top 5 chick flicks of 2011 list. Its current gross revenue has topped $214 million worldwide, but saw 52 percent of its revenue come from overseas. The movie surrounds the adventures of Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. The movie was released February 2011 and became one of the years most laughable chick flicks. The film was based on a 1969 movie called the Cactus Flower, which was originally a Broadway play and adapted from a French play called Fluer de cactus.

Friends with Benefits

 

Friends with Benefits come is last only because of its domestic revenue. This top 5 chick flick of 2011 only grossed just over $55 million domestically, but found a lot of success overseas, bringing in almost $100 million. The popularity of the movie was generated because of the premise. Friends with sexual benefits. Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunas star as the main characters. These two best friends decide that introducing sex to their friendship will not become with any complications. However, as both start getting feeling for each other, those complications develop.
